collective insights in action

Project background

South Tyneside Council wanted their 2025–2030 Climate Strategy to reflect the lived realities of their community, services and staff.

As part of their 2025 week-long Climate Summit, they brought employees together from across departments to explore how climate change impacts eight key areas of the Council’s work. The goal: to shape a strategy that is practical, people-centred, and future-ready.

Climate Strategy

Our approach

We worked alongside the Council's climate resilience team to design and run a full-day workshop. Together, we explored housing, transport, infrastructure, waste, and more, capturing perspectives from across the organisation. We designed activities that allowed reflection and co-creation, facilitated the conversations and gathered insights.

Following the workshop, our team used qualitative analysis and synthesised reflections, insights, and findings into a structured report that mapped threats, opportunities, and critical initiatives to drive meaningful change in South Tyneside.

Impact delivered

By bringing staff together and capturing their insights, the Council was able to turn conversations into tangible actions that shaped its climate strategy:

  • Built shared understanding across departments of the challenges and opportunities in tackling climate change.

  • Captured frontline knowledge to ensure the strategy reflected real-world operational realities.

  • Highlighted critical initiatives that would enable or block progress, providing clear priorities for action.

  • Strengthened ownership and engagement among staff, giving them a stake in the Council’s 2025–2030 Climate Strategy.
